Okay, so my newest obsession, is a glowing complexion! Everyone, I think, looks better when they’re glowing. When people say natural, I still can’t help but add some glow to their complexion. I don’t know what about summer draws me to shining, shimmer, bronzed skin so much more than any other time of the year. Like, I almost get offended when people say they want a completely flat, boring, powdery, complexion, I just don’t get it! Regardless, for my glowing goddesses out there, here are some of my favourite products to achieve that glowing skin!
First, it’s all about that base! No matter what the skin type/colour of the skin I always prime the skin with an illuminizing/radiance primer my two (sort of 3) favourite ones are:
Laura Mercier Radiance Primer, this primer is amazing! I find that it helps to even out, and tone down redness, as well as blur fine lines, pore size and blemish. It give the skin an all over illuminated, glowing complexion without making it look shiny, oil, or like a glitter bomb. This primer works well with all skin tones but I do prefer to use the bronze version, for those that have a little bit of a darker complexion, or are wanting to look more tan.
My other, newer favourite, illumizing primer is Nars Pro-Prime Light Optimizing Primer. This one is a little more subtle, and better for those that are getting photo’s done or wanting a more matte look. The primer is light optimizing which means when flash is used, it helps to show the dimension of the face, it diminishes the look of dullness, fatigue that happen because of everyday life! This primer is also great for summer time since it has SPF 15 in it, but don’t worry it won’t create a flashback, or the terrible white mask when a flash is used!
My next trick, is to place extra highlight, to the high points of the face, before using foundation. To do that you can use a couple different products, cream highlight (in a pot or sticks), liquid illuminzers, or even the radiance primers. My favourite one right now is Nars Multiple in South Beach. I start by directly drawing on the face an upside down “L”, down the temple and across the cheek bone, a triangle on the forehead, down the bridge of the nose, on the cupids bow and a triangle on the chin, then blend it out, a bit, with my fingers. It really does give the glow from with in look!
Next is a light weight foundation, one that give enough coverage to even out the skin but isn’t a mask. A couple of my favourites are Nars Pure Radiance Tinted Moisturizer for you don’t want a lot of coverage, and Sheer Glow for when you need a little more coverage. I love to pair these foundations with Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer, it just fills in the gaps and blends beautifully, not even with just these foundations but with any skin base.
After foundation, I set it and contour the face but like to finish up with a little pit of powder highlight, just to really hit the glow out of the ball park. The ones I’ve been reaching for most often are:
Laura Mercier’s Limited Edition Rose Gold highlight (I can’t find the a link to this one unfortunately), as well as Highlight 01. These two highlights are both beautiful. They’re not too chunky or gaudy, they just give a soft shimmer to the cheek. I like that the base of Highlight 01 has a natural skin tone base but the champagne shimmer on top, so if there was going to be a “natural” highlight I think this would be the closest. The limited edition one is amazing for a softer more romantic highlight
The last product is actually a combo introduced to me by my lovely co-worker Nav (@navanartistry), seriously she’s a genius. Start off by using Make Up For Evers Pro Contour Duo, primarily the gold side, lightly on the cheeks then go over it with Nars Albatros highlighter. It’s… just… AMAZING! If you use only the Pro Contour Duo then we’ve found it to be a bit blotchy and the Albatros a little bit ashy when put on darker skin, so layering the two real makes it pop and gives that perfect bronze glow on darker, richer skin tones!
